Maritime signal flags inspire iconic SS14 Lacoste Collection

For Spring/ Summer 2014, Lacoste revists the Maritime Signal Flag Alphabet and launches a line for men and boys inspired by the flags that keep communication clear on water. With signature LACOSTE design, this line features color codes that are reminiscent of the sailing flags and also showcase the brand's mastery of color blocking, mainly green on blue, red on blue, and yellow on grey.
Think << Urban Sailor >>, or in short a sailing wardrobe adapted to the street.

Sailing and the sea has been an important part of the brand heritage. The first poster in 1933 advertised the LACOSTE polo shirt for << tennis, golf and beach >>. LACOSTE has since 1930s been on the beaches of Atlantic, the French beaches of the Pays Basque, of course, but also Arcachon, Le Touquet and La Baule. All these famous backdrops were familiar with the Crocodile, who then conquers the American East Coast and its seaside towns and then on to California. Then chic Mediterranean destinations quickly adopt the brand too, as do those South America and Asia. The nautical theme and its array of iconic products- striped polo shirts, sweaters, pea coats, boating shoes- have been seen in many spring- summer collections of the brand, from its creation until today.

In the 1980s, LACOSTE partnered with the boat manufacturer Dufour to design and develop a 42' - sailing boat. Later in the early 2000s. LACOSTE and French sailor Loick Peyron teamed up to produce a range of technical performance products for sailors. The nautical esthetic has undoubtedly generated products but most importantly greatly inspired the brand's designers over the years.

Key products from the LACOSTE Spring / Summer 2014 Maritime Signal Flags line include a polo collection with maritime woven flags on the back and matching crocodile embroidery at the front. Each polo flag corresponds to a letter of the LACOSTE word.
Gabardine trousers in beige or navy, with flags details above the right back pocket. A graphic sweatshirt with LACOSTE spelled out across the chest with matching sailing flags. A navy technical wind- breaker with white zip detailing. For boys, t- shirts, polo shirts and shorts are available.

BAGS
There are also two bags in the collection that are sure to become instant cult classics: the Roll bag and the Airline bag. Both are available exclusively in petit pique PVC and rendered in the nautical navy shade so indelibly linked to the Maritime Signal Flags. The Roll bag is a proper sailor cylinder bag, with LACOSTE spelled out horizontally each letter being accompanied by a specific sailing flag. The same branding is employed on the Airline bag, which was inspired by the shape of the iconic American airline bags from the 1970s.
